Kamala Harris Is ‘Very Proud’ to Have Taylor Swift’s Endorsement: ‘She’s an Incredible Artist’ and ‘Stands Up for What She Believes Is Right’

by · Variety

Kamala Harris participated in Wired’s autocomplete interview series and was asked about what it’s like getting endorsed by Taylor Swift, perhaps the most famous celebrity on the planet these days. The pop star endorsed the Harris-Walz ticket following Harris’ first presidential debate against Donald Trump earlier this month.

“I am very proud to have the support of Taylor Swift. She’s an incredible artist,” Harris said. “I really respect the courage that she has had in her career to stand up for what she believes is right. But we were on different sides of the Super Bowl last year. I am a 49ers fan, but who’s mad at anyone for being loyal to their team?”

In her endorsement statement, Swift wrote that Harris “fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”

Swift added, “I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate, Tim Walz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”

The singer also encouraged her followers to register to vote and included a link to the U.S. government’s Vote.gov information site. In the days after her endorsement, it was reported that Swift drove more than 400,000 visitors to Vote.gov in the 24 hours after her post.

Swift’s endorsement for Harris led to scorn from Donald Trump, who posted on Truth Social that the singer would “probably pay a price for it in the marketplace.” He later posted: “I Hate Taylor Swift!’
