Josh Johnson’s HBO Special Sets May Debut

The stand-up hour will air on the cabler and be available to stream on HBO Max starting at 8 p.m. Per HBO, the special “highlights the comedian’s unique point of view and signature creativity as he reflects on strange childhood experiences, the perils of being labeled ‘nice,’ challenging family dynamics, and navigating life’s most awkward moments.”

The logline continues, “Leading the audience to laughter the way a conductor guides musicians, ‘Josh Johnson: Symphony’ showcases the comedian’s humor, warmth, and relatability to offer a truly original and unforgettable experience.”
“Do y’all ever wonder if the first chiropractor was just bad at murder?” Johnson quips in the trailer for the special.
Elsewhere in the hour, he riffs on having meals with his uncle. “I can’t take my uncle anywhere,” he says. “If you take him out to eat and he has some good food, he has to audibly, loudly catcall his food. He ordered the lobster bisque. This man goes, ‘Ohhh, she thick.'”
Johnson is best known as one of the rotating hosts of “The Daily Show,” where he offers a comedic take on the news alongside Jon Stewart, Jordan Klepper, Desi Lydic and others. He’s also a prolific comic who puts out an hour of new stand-up material every Tuesday on his YouTube channel.
Johnson executive produces “Symphony” along with Jacob Menache, James Dixon, Daniel Bodansky and John Irwin (for Irwin Entertainment). Menache also directed the special.
