‘Bunker,’ ‘Elsinore,’ ‘Purgatory’ and More Join Austin Film Festival’s Full Lineup

Austin Film Festival revealed the full lineup for the 33rd annual festival taking place from Oct. 29 to Nov. 5, along with announcing the filmmakers, actors and writers expected to attend.

The festival will showcase 97 films from 24 countries along with four days of Writers Conference programming. Jesse Eisenberg’s “The Debut,” starring Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti, will open the festival and Tony Gilroy’s “Behemoth!” starring Pedro Pascal will serve as the festival’s centerpiece selection.

Florian Zeller’s latest film “Bunker” starring Javier Bardem, Penélope Cruz, Paul Dano, Stephen Graham and Patrick Schwarzenegger is one of the many newly announced films on the lineup. It is joined by Simon Stone’s “Elsinore,” which follows the life of acclaimed actor Ian Charleson, starring Andrew Scott and Olivia Colman and “Purgatory,” a coming-of-age comedy-drama starring Abby Elliott, Jack Innanen, John Reynolds and J.K. Simmons.

Other marquee films at the festival include Jordan Firstman’s “Club Kid,” Pedro Almodóvar’s “Bitter Christmas,” Andrew Morgan’s “Bleeding Hearts” and James Gray’s “Paper Tiger.”

The talent who will be making appearances includes Michael Arndt (“Little Miss Sunshine”), Brad Bird and Patton Oswalt (“Ray Gunn”), Edward Burns (“Beneath the Blue Suburban Skies”), Andrew Haigh (“A Long Winter”), Frank Marshall (“Paper Moon”), Samy Burch (“This Is the One They’ll Remember Me By”) and many more.

Newly announced panels include A Conversation with Jim Downey, Inside the Making of “Friday Night Lights,” Inside the Making of “Lanterns,” Inside the writers’ room: “Family Guy,” On Crafting Enduring Characters in a Sitcom World and Script to Screen: The Town with Peter Craig. Peter Craig will also host a live reading of an unproduced screenplay, “Wild Four O’clock.”
