‘Full House’ Star Jodie Sweetin Says Dave Coulier is ‘Doing Great’ Following ‘Tough Battle’ with Cancer

Jodie Sweetin is giving fans a health update on her “Full House” co-star Dave Coulier, eight months after the actor announced he was in remission from tongue cancer.

Speaking with People, Sweetin said Coulier is doing “really well,” and she’d just stayed at his house for a weekend with Andrea Barber, who played Kimmy Gibler on the ABC sitcom. The actress agreed Coulier has had “such a tough battle,” explaining that “Sitting around and having coffee with him in the morning meant so much.” The two recently connected at an arts fundraiser in Detroit, which was “so much fun,” she added. “He’s doing great.”

Sweetin also noted their bond has lasted since acting on-screen together more than 30 years ago. “We’re still super close,” she said. “We’re all doing 90s Con in Hartford this coming weekend. Yeah, we’re like obnoxiously annoyingly close… We’re a family.”

Sweetin played Stephanie Tanner on the beloved sitcom, while Coulier played Joey Gladstone, Danny Tanner’s best friend (though he’s referred to as “Uncle Joey” on the show). “Full House” ran for eight seasons, from 1987 to 1995.

In Feb., Coulier revealed he was in remission after undergoing treatment for tongue cancer, a diagnosis he had shared in December. He had beaten Stage 3 non-Hodgkin Lymphoma nearly a year before that. “It’s been a roller coaster ride for sure,” Coulier said during an appearance on “Good Morning America.” “I’m in remission with both cancers. And what a journey this has been.”

Three months later, the actor took to social media to respond to fans who pointed out his changing appearance following both cancers, sharing on Instgram that he hadn’t been able to eat solid food in months and lost 45 pounds.

“Hi everyone, it’s me Dave, and I haven’t posted in quite a while and the last time I did some of you said that I look differently, and I sound differently, and I do,” he began the video. “And what you’re seeing is the side effects of extensive radiation that I went through for carcinoma in my throat… It’s affected my ability to speak, some of you have said that I speak differently. So you’re right on with what you’re seeing and what you’re hearing.”
