Paralympics Star Ali Truwit Documentary ‘Stronger Than You Think’ Distribution Rights Acquired by Sox Entertainment
by William Earl · VarietyDistribution rights to the inspirational sports documentary “Stronger Than You Think,” which tells the story of Paralympic star swimmer Ali Truwit, have been acquired by Sox Entertainment.
Truwit made international headlines at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris when she competed (and won two silver medals) as a swimmer barely a year after losing her lower-left leg in a shark attack while swimming in Turks and Caicos in May 2023. The Connecticut native had just graduated from Yale University two days before with dual major in cognitive science and behavioral economics. She was already an accomplished swimmer who competed for Yale.

Truwit, 26, has since become a magnet for brands and sponsors. She launched the nonprofit Stronger Than You Think to support her mission to using her story of rebounding after a tragic setback as an example to other women and girls. The “Stronger Than You Think” documentary was directed by Emmy winners Janice C. Molinari and Melissa Forman. It is produced by Allez! Sports, with Forman alongside Allyson J. Davis.
“This film is for everyone out there fighting for their own comebacks, for everyone out there trying to turn hardship into hope, and for everyone out there working to make a difference in this world. I hope all who watch it walk away with what I know to be true: that we are all stronger than we think,” Truwit said.
Truwit has struck sponsorship pacts with such blue-chip brands as Nike, and is on the corporate speaking tour for such heavyweights as Amazon, Merck and Bank of America. Last fall, Truwit competed in the New York City marathon using her prosthetic running blade. She has also been featured as a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model for the past two years. She has a book due out from St. Martin’s Press in 2028. And Truwit is widely expected to be a force at the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. She has also worked as a business analyst for McKinsey & Co.
Sox Entertainment, headed by CBS and Paramount veteran Scott Koondel, plans to shop “Stronger Than You Think” to a wide range of potential partners.
For now, the film is on a run through the summer and fall festival circuit. To date, “Stronger” has won the Audience Award at the Austin Film Festival, Best Documentary at Beaufort International Film Festival and Best Feature Documentary at the Garden State Film Festival. It’s set to play festivals in Nashville, Newport Beach, Sedona and Beverly Hills as well as the Chicago Women Fest, the Big Apple Film Festival and the Sports International Film Festival.
“I’m privileged and thrilled to bring this riveting documentary to the marketplace. Ali’s resilient determination to overcome such adversity will inspire and entertain all audiences on all media platforms,” Koondel said.
