No network or streaming service is currently attached to the project. It will shoot at Harvest Studios’ stages in Northridge, CA.
“We believe there’s a major opportunity to re-establish multi-camera comedy as appointment viewing,” said Evans. “Harvest Studios is building a home for bold, culturally resonant sitcoms. ‘Boo’d Up’ is exactly the kind of show that studios and streamers need and that audiences have been missing. We’re not just creating shows, we’re making a pipeline and looking for strategic distribution partners to help build with us.”
The official logline for “Boo’d Up” states that it “centers on Reggie (Payne), who, after a difficult divorce thinks love has passed him by—until he meets Zoe (Jone), a widowed mother of two precocious kids. As their relationship deepens, Zoe reveals a complication: her late husband Jake (Martin), a former NBA superstar, is still very much present—as a ghost. One determined to maintain his hold over the family as its patriarch, armed with supernatural antics and hijinks.”
“This is a full-circle moment for me,” added Martin. “Comedy is where I started, and getting to return to it in a fresh, unexpected way—with Bentley and Trenten’s Harvest Studios—feels like the right project at the right time.”
Evans is currently executive producing the “Martin” spinoff “Varnell Hill” starring Tommy Davidson at BET, as well as “Savannah State of Mind,” the first original scripted series for AspireTV.
Evans is repped by Buchwald and Zero Gravity Management. Martin is repped by the Paul Kohner Agency and Atlas Artists.
