Goldie Hawn to be Honored by Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles

by · Variety

Goldie Hawn will be honored with the Power of a Wish Award at the Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles Wish Gala on Dec. 5 at the Fairmont Century Plaza. Her son, Oliver Hudson, will present her with the award.

“My life has always been guided by the pursuit of joy,” Hawn said in a statement Tuesday. “Children embody that joy so naturally, yet I’ve also seen how stress and uncertainty can dim their light. When a child feels overwhelmed, even dreaming can seem out of reach. These children have tackled challenges with such bravery and determination, and are so deserving of the hope a wish experience can bring. I’m proud to accept the Power of a Wish Award to help Make-A-Wish deliver more joy to those families who need it most.”

Anthony Anderson is also on board to host the Wish Gala, which will feature a special performance by Finneas. The goal of the evening is to raise funds to grant 100 life-changing wishes that will directly benefit wish-granting efforts for families in the Greater Los Angeles area.

Disney executive Sally Hopkins Conner will also be honored with the Philanthropic Leader Award for her longtime support of the organization, including serving as chair of the board, producing commercials pro bono and helping to grant life-changing wishes for over a decade.

“The bravery of these children and their families is truly remarkable,” Hopkins Conner added. “Giving them hope during their most difficult moments is such an important part of the healing process. I’m both proud and deeply humbled that so many children choose Disney to help bring their wishes to life. Every hour of every day, somewhere around the world, Disney is granting a wish—bringing joy, comfort, and a little magic to a child who needs it most.”

Since its inception in 1983, Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles has granted wishes for more than 10,000 children with critical illnesses.

The annual gala gathers industry leaders, wish families, corporations and celebrities for an evening that celebrates those who have contributed to the cause and the organization’s dedication to transforming the lives of children facing critical illness with granted wishes.
