‘Stranger Things: The First Shadow’ Star Max Harwood to Headline ‘Percy Jackson’ Musical in London

Max Harwood, known for his role in London West End show “Stranger Things: The First Shadow,” will take on the title role in “The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical” for its London premiere.

Harwood, who gained recognition for his breakout role in the film adaptation of “Everybody’s Talking About Jamie,” was named as one of Variety‘s 10 Brits to Watch in 2021. He will star as Percy Jackson, a New York teenager who discovers he’s the half-blood son of the Greek god Poseidon. The musical adaptation follows Jackson as he grapples with newly discovered powers he can’t control, an unwanted destiny, and a host of mythical monsters on his trail. Along with his friends, Jackson embarks on an epic adventure to save the world.

Based on Rick Riordan’s bestselling book series, which has sold over 180 million copies worldwide, the musical features a book by Joe Tracz (“Be More Chill”) and music and lyrics by Rob Rokicki (“Punk­ Rock Girl!”). Lizzi Gee, an associate artist of The Old Vic, will make her debut as director and choreographer for this production.

“The Lightning Thief” premiered off-Broadway in 2014 and has since toured the U.S., had an off-Broadway run in 2017, and a 16-week limited engagement on Broadway in 2019. This marks the musical’s first London production. The “Percy Jackson” franchise has previously been adapted into films and a recent Disney+ series.

Bill Kenwright Ltd. and Paul Taylor-Mills are producing the show. The production is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. It is set to begin performances at The Other Palace on Nov. 23 and scheduled to run through Feb. 2, 2025. The creative team and additional casting are to be announced.
