by Marta Balaga · VarietyDutch international distributor Skoop Media has launched a new crime label Dutch Noir.

The label kicks off with 17 titles from six producers, including four new Videoland Original series.

“As one of Europe’s largest local streaming platforms, Videoland has the freedom to take risks and approach crime drama differently,” said Steven van Roosmalen, Head of Scripted.
“We tell raw, direct stories that are deeply rooted in Dutch society, but explore universal themes. That’s exactly what makes Dutch crime so appealing to the audience.”
At its core is the “Mocro Maffia” world, one of the most widely sold Dutch series of recent years. Over six seasons and several spin-offs, it has grown into a full crime universe, licensed to German and French-speaking Europe, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Belgium, Latin America and Japan.
“Buyers are looking for the next ‘Mocro Maffia’. Dutch Noir is where they’ll find it,” said Pim van Collem, CEO of Snoop Media.
“This slate has range, scale and attitude. It’s rooted in the reality of the drug trade in the Netherlands.”
The Dutch Noir slate for Mipcom is led by Videoland Original “Narcostad,” created by “Mocro Maffia” lead actor Nasrdin Dchar.
The series follows teenagers recruited into Rotterdam’s drug economy, and will be presented alongside three further Videoland Originals: the second season of “Mocro Maffia” spin-off “Tonnano,” the fourth and final season of “Sleepers” and the short-form heist thriller “Rippers.”
All four series are produced by Amsterdam-based Fiction Valley.
Skoop Media doesn’t believe in “crime fatigue” – just the opposite.
“Audiences aren’t tired of crime. They are always searching for new crime series, intrigued by bold raw characters, realistic and gritty storytelling. The international fanbase and proven sales of six Seasons of ‘Mocro Maffia’ in Europe, Latam and Asia is a proof that Dutch Noir stories travel,” added van Collem.
The label will exemplify the best of Dutch crime series.
“It’s rooted in a small country that isn’t just a backdrop for crime stories. It’s where most of Europe’s underworld is rooted.”
