Passion Pictures’ Paris Animation Studio Appoints Caroline Audebert as Managing Director (EXCLUSIVE)

by · Variety

As Passion Pictures’ French animation studio Passion Paris approaches its 20th year of business, the company has appointed Caroline Audebert as its new Managing Director.

Audebert will oversee future expansion, such as the opening of a new creative studio on Quai de Jemmapes. The bespoke space is custom-made for Passion’s 2D series work as well as its 3D and stop-motion production for shorts and series. The expansion will allow the company’s Paris-based studios to increase and diversify their production lineup.

Passion Paris recently released the animated short “Moonlit Bamboo Forest” by David Pagaille and is currently producing several projects, including the 2023 Cartoon Forum standout “Apocalypse Mojito” and the short “Please” from Emmy-winning filmmaker Anna Mantzaris. The company is also currently in production on “LEGO Friends” Season 4.

Audebert brings with her a wealth of animation industry expertise and most recently served as head of Ellipse Animation. She previously had stints at Cybergroup Studios, BUG, Gaumont Animation, and Disney.

Of her new appointment, Audebert said: “I am thrilled to be joining Passion Paris at such a pivotal moment. The studio’s versatility and commitment to producing diverse formats in all styles of animation to tell the most beautiful stories attracted me to this role. I’m looking forward to bringing new ideas and continuing to build on the strong relationships that make Passion Paris a creative force. With the projects in production and such talented artists, the future looks incredibly bright, and I’m honored to lead the team into the next chapter.”

Audebert takes over from outgoing Managing Director Marc Bodin-Joyeux, who will stay on for a brief transition period. Of the leadership change, Bodin-Joyeux said: “I couldn’t be more confident in passing the baton to Caroline. Her creativity, leadership, and passion for animation are exactly what Passion Paris needs as we move into the next 20 years. I’m excited to remain part of this journey as we continue producing top-tier animation while also embracing fresh energy and perspectives.”

Passion Pictures founder Andrew Ruhemann added: “Passion Paris has always had a unique French appeal, and that’s a huge asset in the world of animation. France is the home of animation in Europe, and having a strong Paris-based studio allows us to tap into the country’s exceptional talent and creative culture. As we celebrate 20 years, I’m confident that under Caroline’s leadership, Passion Paris will continue to play a central role in shaping the animation landscape in Europe and beyond.”
