Seth MacFarlane Lands on Emmy Ballot Six Times as Peacock Mounts 19-Category ‘Ted’ Push, With Brennan Lee Mulligan in Guest Comedy (EXCLUSIVE)
by Clayton Davis · VarietyThe foul-mouthed teddy bear wants an Emmy.
Peacock has submitted “Ted” across 19 categories at the Primetime Emmy Awards, Variety has learned exclusively, mounting one of the streamer’s most expansive comedy campaigns to date for the Seth MacFarlane-led series following a record-setting second season.
The push lands MacFarlane on this year’s Emmy ballot in six distinct capacities. On “Ted,” he is submitted as an executive producer, a writer and in outstanding character voice-over performance for his work as the title teddy bear. In addition, he also carries an executive producer credit on Peacock’s Keke Palmer-led comedy “The ‘Burbs,” along with both an executive producer credit and a voice performer submission for Fox’s long-running animated series “Family Guy.”

The “Ted” campaign itself spans every major comedy race, including outstanding comedy series, directing, writing and casting for a comedy series, alongside acting submissions for series leads Max Burkholder, Scott Grimes, Alanna Ubach and Giorgia Whigham.
According to Nielsen data released in April, the second season of “Ted” generated 1.2 billion minutes viewed since its March launch, the top original comedy across all U.S. streamers in that window. The number cemented “Ted” as one of Peacock’s most-watched comedy originals to date. Currently, there has been no official announcement regarding the future of “Ted.”
Created by MacFarlane and produced by UCP, Fuzzy Door and MRC, “Ted” is set in 1994 Boston, following the foul-mouthed teddy bear and his best friend John Bennett through senior year of high school. MacFarlane co-showruns alongside Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh, all three of whom serve as writers and executive producers. Erica Huggins, Alana Kleiman, Jason Clark and Aimee Carlson also executive produce.
Ubach in particular is having a very most visible run as of late, with additional appearances as Amanda Weinberg on the final season of HBO Max’s “Hacks” and as Sydney Sweeney’s onscreen mother on HBO Max’s “Euphoria.”
Among the guest acting submissions, Brennan Lee Mulligan‘s entry for guest comedy actor stands out as one of the more interesting plays on the slate. Best known for his recurring work on indie streamer Dropout, including the hit game show “Game Changer,” Mulligan is also one of the most prominent figures in the contemporary Dungeons & Dragons community, with a passionate fanbase that has helped propel him into mainstream conversations. His “Ted” episode, the D&D-themed Ep. 203 “Dungeons & Dealers,” leans directly into the world he is most associated.
The series is also pursuing recognition across a wide swath of craft categories, including cinematography, editing, production design, prosthetic makeup, costumes, hairstyling, sound editing, sound mixing and special visual effects.
Emmy nominations voting begins on June 11.
