HBO Max to Release ‘Harry Potter’ Podcast Revisiting All 8 Original Films — Running a Total of 16 Hours
by Todd Spangler · VarietyHBO Max wants to charm viewers into watching (or rewatching) the original eight “Harry Potter” movies with a new podcast that digs deep into Warner Bros.’s cinematic Wizarding World.
“Harry Potter: The Official Film Podcast” is set to debut May 19, with a special two‑episode launch about the first film, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” (known outside the U.S. as “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”). New episodes will drop weekly thereafter. The podcast’s episodes run approximately 60 minutes each with two episodes dedicated to each film, for a total of around 16 hours.

HBO Max said it’s rolling out the new podcast “in celebration” of the 25th anniversary of the first film in the blockbuster franchise, which starred Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Rupert Grint (Ron) and Emma Watson (Hermione). In addition, the podcast serves to promote the Harry Potter films ahead of the new HBO original TV series based on the J.K. Rowling books, with an all-new cast; Season 1 is set to debut Christmas 2026.
The video version of the podcast will be available exclusively on HBO Max while the audio-only version will be available across all major audio platforms, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
British film critic and broadcaster Rhianna Dhillon hosts “Harry Potter: The Official Film Podcast.” She will be joined by a rotating roster of co‑hosts from across the entertainment world to provide “a thoughtful rewatch experience that balances high‑level film recaps with in-depth discussion of the moments that matter most by revisiting key sequences and themes and diving deeper into standout scenes, performances and creative choices,” according to HBO Max. In a regular “Magic Makers” segment, Dhillon will be joined by “behind‑the‑scenes special guests who reveal what it took to bring the Wizarding World to life on screen.”
Dhillon — a lifelong Harry Potter fan and “proud Slytherin” — has over a decade of experience as an interviewer and critic for BBC Radio 1, BBC6Music, BAFTA and other platforms.
