The filmed version of “Hamilton” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray for the first time on June 16, in a Collector’s Edition that includes a new documentary, a sing-along version and physical memorabilia.

The release upgrades the production to Dolby Vision picture quality and Dolby Atmos audio — a step up from the version that has been streaming on Disney+ since 2020.

The main new addition is “Spark into a Flame: Hamilton & Hip-Hop,” a documentary exploring the connection between the musical, the hip-hop influences behind it, and The Hamilton Mixtape that followed its success. Creator Lin-Manuel Miranda appears alongside a range of musicians including Busta Rhymes, Nas, Questlove, Black Thought, Angie Martinez, Common, Dessa and Residente.

The Collector’s Edition also includes a “Reuniting the Revolution” featurette, a sing-along version of the filmed production, a fabric poster, collectible art cards, and a booklet containing the lyrics and piano sheet music for “Alexander Hamilton.”

The acclaimed musical, written and originally performed by Miranda, was nominated for a 16 Tonys and won 11, including Best Musical, in 2016. Based on Ron Chernow’s biography of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, it tells Hamilton’s story — from his origins as an immigrant orphan to his role in shaping the early United States and his fatal duel with Vice President Aaron Burr — through hip-hop, R&B, jazz and Broadway show tunes.

A filmed version of the original Broadway cast, directed for camera by Thomas Kail, was released on Disney+ in July 2020 and is available to stream here.
