Netflix Orders ‘Barbaric’ TV Adaptation Based on Vault Comic Series
by Joe Otterson · VarietyNetflix has greenlit the series adaptation of the Vault Comics property “Barbaric” created by Mike Moreci and Nathan Gooden and edited by Adrian Wassel.
The announcement was made during Netflix’s upfront presentation to advertisers on Wednesday in New York. The show was first reported to be in development at the streamer in 2024. It was originally reported that Sam Claflin and Patrick Stewart were to star in the series, but talent deals are not currently finalized.

The official logline for the show states, “A ruthless and crass barbarian is cursed to only use his violence only for good, which sends him, his talking axe and a young witch on a road of self discovery, redemption and revenge.”
Sheldon Turner (“Up In The Air,” “X-Men First Class,” “Straight Outta Compton”) will write and co-showrun, with Turner also executive producing with Jennifer Klein (“Armageddon,” “Pearl Harbor”) for 100% Productions. Robert Rovner (“Supergirl”) is also an executive producer and co-showrunner.
Barry Jossen and Tana Jamieson executive produce for A+E Studios. Javier Grillo-Marxuach also executive produces with F.J. DeSanto and Damian Wassel for Vault Comics, Claflin, Luke Carroll, and Michael Stevenson for Soft Claw Productions.
A+E Studios is also behind the hit Netflix series “The Lincoln Lawyer,” which is based on the Michael Connelly Mickey Haller novels. That show originally debuted in 2022 and is currently prepping its fifth season, which is based on the seventh book in the series, “Resurrection Walk.”
Klein and Turner are repped by CAA and Gang Tyre. Marxuach is repped by CAA and Jackoway Tyerman. Rovner is repped by CAA, The Shuman Company, and Myman Greenspan. Vault, Wassel, and DeSanto are repped by UTA, Industry Entertainment, and Weintraub Tobin.
