‘Minions & Monsters’ Sets Peacock Release Date

“Minions & Monsters” will be available to stream Oct. 28 on Peacock.

The seventh installment of the “Despicable Me” franchise released in theaters July 1 with a voice cast led by Allison Janney, Jeff Bridges and Jesse Eisenberg.

Pierre Coffin, the series co-creator and voice of the Minions, and Patrick Delage directed the film, which is set in 1920s Hollywood. As the industry evolves to include projects with sound, the Minions are faced with the harsh realization that nobody can understand their Minionese language. And, in true Minion fashion, chaos ensues when the yellow creatures accidentally release monsters out into the world.

Zoey Deutch, Bobby Moynihan and “South Park” co-creator Trey Parker round out the voice cast, with movie pioneer George Lucas also appearing in the film. “Minions & Monsters” featured several references to Hollywood classics ranging from “Citizen Kane” to “The Blob.” The film also paid homage to old Hollywood in a scene where Max (Christoph Waltz) calls out the Minions names, which happen to be the names of famous directors like Federico (Fellini) and Erich (von Stroheim). 

Prior to “Minions & Monsters,” fans of the Minions received the spinoff sequel “Minions: The Rise of Gru,” which was released in 2022 and was followed by “Despicable Me 4” in 2024. The franchise launched in 2010 with the original “Despicable Me” movie, which featured Steve Carell as supervillain Gru. 

The “Despicable Me” movies marked the first animated franchise to cross $5 billion at the global box office. Coffin recently broke down the Minionese language with Variety, explaining he draws from the likes of Japanese, Filipino, Korean, Hindi, German and Indonesian dialects.
