Janelle Monáe Signs With UTA in All Areas
by Jem Aswad · VarietyUnited Talent Agency has signed “10-time Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, producer, author, actor, world builder and HalloQUEEN” Janelle Monáe for global representation in all areas. UTA will work to secure opportunities across live touring, media, filmed entertainment, brand partnerships and more.
The signing comes as Monáe is slated to appear in multiple projects in the coming months, including a feature in Amazon MGM’s “Is God Is,” in theaters on May 15, and the new adult animated series “Bass x Machina” for Netflix, premiering on October 6.

Monáe’s most recent album, “The Age of Pleasure,” received 2024 Grammy nominations for Album of the Year and Best Progressive R&B Album. On screen, Monáe has appeared in Netflix’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” Lionsgate’s “Antebellum,” the Amazon series “Homecoming,” as well as the Academy Award-winning film “Moonlight” and Academy Award-nominated film “Hidden Figures.” As an author, Monáe released the short story collection “The Memory Librarian: And Other Stories of Dirty Computer” in 2022.
A true multi-hyphenate, Monáe is the founder of Wondaland Arts Society and Wondaland Pictures, which develops film, television, and multimedia projects under a first‑look deal with Universal Pictures. Additionally through Wondaland Arts Society, Monáe produces Wondaween, a month-long, city-wide Halloween festival to Los Angeles Pier.
Through their work, Monáe continues to champion expansive storytelling centered on liberation, identity, and global Black expression. Monáe’s nonprofit Fem The Future is dedicated to a fem-forward future by cultivating radical integration of STEM and creative arts for women, girls and gender expansive people of color.
