Producer Lorenzo Gangarossa, Whose Credits Include Pawel Pawlikowski’s Cannes Competition Title ‘Fatherland,’ Joins Lucky Red (EXCLUSIVE)
by Nick Vivarelli · VarietyItalian producer Lorenzo Gangarossa, whose credits include Pawel Pawlikowski’s Cannes competition title “Fatherland,” is set to join Lucky Red as head of international projects of the Rome-based indie that was recently acquired by France’s Canal+ Group.
The move signals the intent on the part of Lucky Red, a leading Italian indie film distributor that is also active in film and TV production as well as sales, to ramp up production after being snapped up by an international group with broader shoulders.

Gangarossa joins Lucky Red after a stint as producer at Fremantle’s Wildside and, more recently, at Mediawan-owned Our Films where, besides “Fatherland,” he was instrumental in shepherding Felix Van Groeningen’s upcoming film “Let Love in.”
Gangarossa’s TV credits include Paolo Sorrentino’s “The Young Pope” and “The New Pope” for HBO-Sky-Canal+, Luca Guadagnino’s “We Are Who We Are” for HBO-Sky, Elena Ferrante adaptation “My Brilliant Friend,” written and directed by Saverio Costanzo and co-produced by RAI, HBO and TIMVision, and Stephen Butchard’s “The Good Mothers,” directed by Julian Jarrold, winner of the Golden Bear for best series at the 2023 Berlinale.
He also executive produced Edward Berger’s Oscar-wining drama “Conclave.” Gangarossa’s other notable producer credits include Ron Howard’s feature documentary “Pavarotti,” van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch’s “The Eight Mountains,” winner of the Cannes 2022 Jury Prize, and Paola Cortellesi’s sleeper hit “There Is Still Tomorrow.”
“I have always held Lorenzo in high regard and have closely followed his career and the countless wonderful projects he has undertaken,” said Lucky Red CEO Andrea Occhipinti in a statement. “I am delighted that he is joining the Lucky Red team at this new stage of the company’s expansion.”
Gangarossa will take on the role of producer and head of international projects at Lucky Red, with Serena Sostegni retaining her role as head of content.
