by · Variety

Riding the phenomenal success of “Dhurandhar,” which has emerged as one of the biggest Indian box office hits of 2025, the makers have locked the sequel for an Eid 2026 release.

“Dhurandhar 2” will bow March 19, 2026, simultaneously releasing in the Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam languages in a pan-India and global rollout — a significant expansion from the original’s Hindi-only theatrical run.

The first installment follows a decade-long Indian intelligence operation where an undercover agent infiltrates Karachi’s criminal and political underworld. The sequel is expected to continue from the cliffhanger ending.

Aditya Dhar directs the films, with Jio Studios and B62 Studios producing. Ranveer Singh leads the cast, with Akshaye Khanna playing the antagonist. The cast also includes Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, Manav Gohil, Danish Pandor, Saumya Tandon, Gaurav Gera and Naveen Kaushik.

The decision to mount a five-language release comes in response to unprecedented demand from South Indian markets, despite the first film’s Hindi-only availability. The original “Dhurandhar” generated exceptional traction across South India through word-of-mouth and social media virality, with southern distributors and exhibitors consistently reporting strong audience demand for dubbed versions. Fans actively called for the film to be made available in regional languages, prompting the makers to ensure “Dhurandhar 2” reaches audiences across regions in their local languages from day one, according to Jio Studios.

The original “Dhurandhar” has collected INR730.77 crore ($81 million) at the India box office, with overseas gross reaching INR186.9 crore ($20.8 million) through Monday, per numbers provided by Jio Studios.

Currently in post-production, “Dhurandhar 2” is shaping up as one of the most anticipated Indian releases of 2026. The makers are also exploring mainstream releases beyond diaspora audiences in select overseas territories.
