‘Blair Witch Project’ Reboot Sets New Director as Original Stars Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams Join as Exec Producers

It’s finally happening! Horror director Dylan Clark is set to helm a new imagining of “The Blair Witch Project.”

Returning to the film are original stars Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams. Also on board from the 1999 production are Eduardo Sánchez, Daniel Myrick and Gregg Hale who will serve as executive producers on the film.

While plot details have not been revealed, the new “Blair Witch” will bring the full mythology and legacy of the franchise to a new generation of storytelling.

The reboot announcement was first made back in 2024 at Cinemacon.

“The Blair Witch Project” is allegedly based on the true story of three student filmmakers who disappear while making a film about the legend of Blair Witch. It grossed a monster $248 million and spawned two film franchises. Lionsgate currently operates a Blair Witch-themed Escape room in Las Vegas that’s called Escape Blair Witch.

Atoic Monster’s James Wan and Blumhouse’s Jason Blum will team with producer Roy Lee to produce the new film.

Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath are producing for Divide/Conquer. Steven Schneider is an executive producer. Michael Clear and Judson Scott are executive producing for Atomic Monster, with Alayna Glasthal overseeing for the company. Scott O’Brien and Pavan Kalidindi are overseeing the project for Lionsgate. Phil Strina negotiated the deal on behalf of the studio.

Clark is also on board to write the new script which was originally penned by Chris Devlin.
