Bravo and Peacock Dive Into Microdramas: ‘Southern Charm’ Star Madison LeCroy and Heather Gay’s Daughter Georgia Will Star in Ultra-Short Shows Coming This Summer

by · Variety

How to pull Bravo fans deeper into the Peacock app? NBCUniversal has a new short answer: It’s gearing up to launch the very first Bravo “unscripted microdramas,” hoping to latch on to the vertical video trend that’s ricocheting around social media.

This summer, Peacock will debut two Bravo original unscripted microdramas: “Salon Confessionals With Madison LeCroy,” centered on the breakout star from Bravo’s “Southern Charm,” and “Campus Confidential: Miami,” featuring Georgia Gay, daughter of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” star, Heather Gay. The shows are part of NBCU’s slate of upfronts announcements.

Each show will have about 60 episodes, with each episode clocking in at a snappy 60-90 seconds. And they’re being produced so that each micro-episode will end on some kind of… micro-cliffhanger.

For what it’s worth, Peacock says the two series are the first original microdramas from a major U.S. entertainment streaming platform. Frances Berwick, chairman of Bravo and Peacock Unscripted at NBCU, believes the format represents a key opportunity to serve current Bravo fans as well as attract new younger viewers.

“The one truism is, people want to watch different kinds of content in different ways,” says Berwick. “These new shows are shot vertically, they’re short, very immersive — and addictive in the way Bravo shows are.”

“Salon Confessionals” and “Campus Confidential” will roll out on Peacock in June or July, as NBCU wants to draft off the return of “Love Island USA” (June 2), which has an audience that skews young (50% under 30) and overindexes on mobile-video consumption.

Both shows have “character connections back to the Bravo universe,” Berwick says. “They have the same tone and cadence as a Bravo reality show — that humorous wink.” They’re produced by Haymaker East, the company behind Bravo’s “Southern Charm.”

In “Salon Confessionals,” LeCroy (pictured above) turns her salon chair “into the ultimate confessional, where clients arrive for a makeover but end up revealing the most unbelievable stories of their lives,” according to Bravo. “College Confidential” will follow “an elite group” of college kids including George Gay, as they “navigate friendships, romance, Greek life, and social media scandals, proving that behind every yacht party and perfect post lies a much messier reality,” per its logline.

Berwick acknowledges the unscripted microdramas are very experimental. One thing that’s attractive: The ultra-short-format series have a lower cost model. In addition, she says, microdramas could serve as an incubator: If they hit, Bravo might turn them into full-blown TV-length shows.

To promote them, Peacock this summer will launch a vertical video section on the mobile app’s homescreen. That will be anchored around Your Bravoverse, hosted by an AI-generated version of Andy Cohen, that will produce a personalized playlist of swipeable video clips culled from more than 5,000 hours of Bravo footage. Peacock has presented several sporting events in vertical video format, too, including a live NBA game in April and some Winter Olympics events.

John Jelley, senior VP of product and user experience, global streaming, NBCUniversal Media Group, says Peacock has been dabbling in vertical video longer than competitors, as it continuously seeks more ways for customers to engage with content. “The vertical format is a brilliant way for fans to access our content at any time of the day, on the go,” he says. “Entertainment is trending toward more snackable formats.”

Also at the upfront, Peacock announced true-crime documentary “The Wolves of Real Estate: The Alexander Brothers,” set to premiere this summer; and a third season of “Love Island Games” launches in the fall of 2027 with Ariana Madix returning as host. In addition, Ciara Miller (“Summer House”) and media personality Tefi Pessoa will be the co-hosts of this upcoming season of “Love Island USA’s” companion series “Aftersun.”

Previously announced Peacock originals include new seasons of hits “Love Island USA” Season 8 (June 2), “Married at First Sight” Season 20 (summer 2026), and a second season of “Nelly and Ashanti: We Belong Together” (fall 2026). Additionally, “The Traitors” Season 6 is set to launch early next year.
