‘Baywatch’ Trailer: Reboot Has Hot People, Big Stunts and Lots of Slow-Motion Running on the Beach
by Ethan Shanfeld · VarietyThere’s sex, sand and swimsuits in the trailer for Fox’s “Baywatch” reboot, which premieres on the network in January.
The three-minute clip opens with series star Stephen Amell leading a rescue mission after a plane collides with a parasail. Amell plays a grown-up version of Hobie Buchannon, the wild child from the original 1990s series. The series follows Hobie, now a Baywatch Captain, following in the footsteps of his father, Mitch, while his world is turned upside down by the surprise arrival of Charlie (Jessica Belkin), the daughter he never knew. Eager to carry on the family legacy, Charlie strives to become a Baywatch lifeguard alongside her dad.

The “Baywatch” reboot was picked up for the 2026-2027 broadcast season by Fox back in September 2025 with a 12-episode order. The series held an open casting call in early 2026 and began production in Los Angeles in the spring.
Shay Mitchell, Brooks Nader, Hassie Harrison, Livvy Dunne, Noah Beck, David Chokachi and Thaddeus LaGrone star alongside Amell and Belkin. Ashley Moore, Luke Eisner, Nadia Gray, Kylar Miranda, and Charlie McElveen appear in recurring cast roles. Hip-hop superstar Megan Thee Stallion also makes an appearance, as evidenced by the trailer.
The original “Baywatch” series debuted in 1989 and, at its peak, was the most-watched show in the world, airing in over 200 countries. The ensemble cast included David Hasselhoff as head lifeguard Mitch Buchannon and helped launch the acting careers of stars like Pamela Anderson, Jason Momoa, Yasmine Bleeth and Carmen Electra. The show also spawned the spinoff “Baywatch Nights” and, in 2017, was rebooted as a failed feature film starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.
Showrunner Matt Nix is an executive producer on the reboot along with McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz. McG also directed the premiere episode. The series is co-produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle.
