‘La Bola Negra’ Producer Movistar Plus Unveils Projects from ‘The Good Boss’ Director Fernando León, J.A. Bayona, Los Moriarti
by John Hopewell · VarietyMovistar Plus, producer of “La Bola Negra,” “The Beloved” and “Sirāt ” has unveiled a new slate of projects headed by titles from “The Good Boss” director Fernando León, director-producer JA Bayona (“Society of the Snow”) and actor-director Paco Leon (“Arde Madrid”).
Further projects are set to be directed by Los Moriarti (“The Endless Trench”), Daniel Monzón (“Cell 211”), Sandra Romero (“Where the Silence Passes”) and Cristóbal Garrido and Adolfo Valor (“La vida breve”).

The new slate marks the first under new Movistar Plus CEO Alfonso Gómez Palacio, made in his first public appearance, flanked by Juan Andrés García Romero “Bropi,” who took up the position of Movistar Plus director of contents in May.
It came as Garcia Ropero announced that Movistar Plus would bow a new Spanish film every week of the year.
Added to an earlier announcement in July, where Movistar Plus committed to doubling its annual number of Spanish original series from eight to 16, the new strategy unveil reconfirms its aim to step up and broaden Spanish film-TV production, co-production and acquisitions.
“We want Movistar Plus to be the most relevant platform for our clients and Spain’s audiovisual industry,” Gómez Palacio said Sunday at the San Sebastián Film Festival where the presentation was made.
He added: “Our ambition is to grow through contents, supporting talent, diving new projects in Spanish with a unique vision offering propositions which nobody else can offer: the best original production alongside big international streaming services and the best sports offer.

*“La Náufraga,” created, written and directed by Fernando León de Aranoa is an exclusive Movistar Plus series producida por Jaume Roures, León de Aranoa y Patricia de Muns. Ir stars Belén Cuesta, just seen at San Sebastián in “5 More Minutes.”
*JA Bayona will executive produce two new non-fiction projects.
*The Moriarty, (“Marco,” “The Endless Trench”) will direct a fiction project, “with the stamp of Carles Porta,” one of Spain’s masters of true crime, with a tony Spanish star cast of Anna Castillo, Pol López and Eduard Fernández.
*Daniel Monzón is set to direct “250 Metros,” a Movistar Plus original film produced with Edmon Roch’s Ikiru Films and Basoilarraren, starring Luis Tosar and written by longtime Monzón and Alex de la Iglesia co-scribe Jorge Guerricaechevarría.
*Another Movistar Plus original, the movie “Una visita familiar,” is set to be produced by Mammut, Icónica Producciones and Bteam Prods, and directed by Sandra Romero, also a helmer on “Many People Need to Die,” Movistar Plus’ biggest Spanish series of 2026.
*Cristóbal Garrido and Adolfo Valor are preparing a comedy starring David Verdaguer and Paula Malia.
*Co-creator, co-writer, director and star of “Arde Madrid,” one of the biggest breakouts in Movistar Plus’ now 10 years of productions, Paco León, famed for his performances in “Aida” and “The House of Flowers,” is described as having “a project” set up in development at Movistar Plus.
