RM15 Million & Counting: Back to the Past PLUS+ Multiverse Edition Arrives in M’sian Cinemas on 26 Feb
by Azri Azizan · WORLD OF BUZZThe promises have been kept, and the wait is nearly over.
Hong Kong star Louis Koo has long hinted at the possible release of an extended version of Back to the Past, but only if the movie performed well at the box office. As of 24 January, the film had grossed RM13.5 million, prompting Louis to express hope for the extended cut’s release.
Following its original debut on 31 December 2025, the film quickly became a box office favourite, drawing strong crowds during the Chinese New Year period and earning over RM15 million in Malaysia within weeks. According to a post by TGV Cinemas, the PLUS+ edition, with 24 minutes of new footage, introduces a fresh multiverse angle that deepens the emotional stakes while expanding the scale of its time‑bending adventure.
Producers and local distributors Five Star Trading and Brilliant Pictures have confirmed the nationwide release, with cinemas preparing for another wave of enthusiastic audiences eager to experience the upgraded cut on the big screen.
What can we expect in Back to the Past PLUS+ Multiverse Edition?
Back to the Past originally served audiences with two alternate endings. Louis previously revealed that a third ending had also been filmed, though he did not share details, hinting only that it could pave the way for both a sequel and a spin‑off.
Louis also revealed that many scenes were removed from the original theatrical cut, particularly those focusing on Hong’s interactions with his family members.
With the multiverse now in play, will audiences get to see alternate versions of familiar characters? That’s something we’ll only know when PLUS+ hits cinemas.
