Bear Boss Buddies Unveils a Handprint Art Portrait of Joker: Folie à Deux Main Characters!

by · WORLD OF BUZZ

Fans of Joker: Folie à Deux have even more reason to be excited about the film’s release, thanks to an eye-catching new art installation at 1 Utama Shopping Centre. This isn’t your typical movie poster, though—it’s a handprint art portrait of the movie’s main characters, created by two local artists from Bear Boss Buddies.

Dylan Ang, the founder of Bear Boss Buddies, and Daniel Leong have been painting with their hands for nearly 11 years, perfecting a unique artistic style. Instead of using brushes, they create art by stamping acrylic paint with their palms and fingers, resulting in expressive, one-of-a-kind works.

Bear Boss Buddies is part of Safe Tree Sdn Bhd, a character licensing company that was recently honoured as The Outstanding Character Licensing Firm Of The Year at The Knights Award 2024. Their artistic achievements and collaborations have made a mark in the industry, and their latest work with Joker: Folie à Deux is no exception.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Dylan and Daniel revealed that they approached Warner Bros. Malaysia to explore creative opportunities, which led to this exciting collaboration. Dylan shared that Bear Boss Buddies had previously created palm-print portraits for other films, such as Police Story 2013, Doraemon Christmas Party, and Line Walker 2: Invisible Spy.

The creative duo expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to work on this project, explaining the meticulous process behind the artwork: “We are very grateful to collaborate with Warner Bros. Malaysia to create a handprint art portrait of the two main characters, Arthur Fleck (played by Joaquin Phoenix) and Lee (played by Lady Gaga). It took us 10 days—about 80 hours in total—to stamp around 100,000 palm prints and fingerprints to complete the 9-foot-tall by 6.25-foot-wide artwork.”

The artwork’s black-and-white colour scheme reflects the dark themes of Folie à Deux. The irregular black fingerprints symbolise the Joker’s inner turmoil and madness, while the red accents emphasise the shared insanity and twisted love between the two main characters.

This original artwork will be on display at 1 Utama’s Centre Court (Level 2, next to Harvey Norman) from now until 7 October 2024. Fans of the film and art enthusiasts alike won’t want to miss the chance to see this stunning creation in person. Be sure to snap some photos and share them on social media to spread the word about Joker: Folie à Deux, which hits cinemas on 3 October 2024!
