Newlyweds Brave Kedah Floods for a Unique Raft Photoshoot During Wedding Celebration

The horrible flooding in the North and Eastern states of Malaysia has resulted in the evacuation of many victims and is truly a heartbreaking experience for those going through it.

However, some Malaysians have managed to turn the awful situation into a more memorable one, such as the newlywed couple in Kedah who celebrated their wedding day in the ongoing floods.

Speaking to Astro Awani, the couple, Nur Izzatul Asma Mustafa and Mohamed Khairie Mohamed Kamal said the event, planned for 1,000 guests including family and friends over the past five months, had to be changed at the last minute, and the food was packed to be distributed to the public due to the worsening flood.

Moreover, the access road from Pekan Kepala Batas to the homestay they were staying in Titi Besi, Kepala Batas, was closed to light vehicles due to rising water levels.

Nur Izzatul said she did not expect the festive wedding to be altered at the last minute. However, she and her husband, Mohamed Khairie Mohamed Kamal, still wore their wedding attire and took memorable photos in the floods.

She said their plans had been made since May, and they had distributed invitation cards and booked the dais, wedding attire, makeup artist, and souvenirs, costing around RM20,000.

“The caterer also agreed to deliver the food order, but we had to pack all the food along with the souvenirs to be distributed to the public using a lorry.”

She also said they rented the homestay four days ago because their house in Kampung Alor Ganu was flooded up to waist level.

Although saddened by what happened, she and her husband considered their wedding day historic because it had to be celebrated in a flood.

“We took memorable photos wearing wedding attire on a boat and a four-wheel-drive vehicle against the backdrop of the flood area. It was really fun.”

Meanwhile, the groom said he was grateful that the wedding ceremony was completed but disappointed that he and his family could not celebrate the wedding reception together because many routes were cut off due to the flood.

“I usually see wedding cases in floods on television and social media, and I didn’t expect this time my wife and I would go through it, but we accept it because what else can we do.”
