Tesco sesame seeds recalled over salmonella risk

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has announced a recall of batches of Tesco sesame seeds due to the presence of salmonella.

The affected product is Tesco Sesame Seeds in 100g size.

The batch codes are: May 2027 155 N01 and June 2027 203 N01.

The public are being advised not to eat the affected batches while retailers are being asked to remove the implicated packs from sale and to display recall notices at tills.

Yesterday, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) recalled batches of Dunnes Stores Baxter & Greene salad and pre-packed products with sesame seeds along with SuperValu and Gem sesame seed products due to the presence of salmonella.

The FSAI said people infected with salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between six and 72 hours.

The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody. Other symptoms may include fever, headache, and abdominal cramps.

The illness usually lasts between 4-7 days.

Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission.

The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.
