Prada 2 'a real pinch me moment' - Irish glove designer
· RTE.ieIrish glove designer Paula Rowan has said it was "very exciting" to see Lady Gaga and other stars wearing her gloves as part of the new Devil Wear's Prada film.
It comes as the Irish premiere of the Devil Wears Prada 2 was held in Dublin last night, more than 20 years on from the original.
The cast have reunited on screen for the sequel. Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci all reprise their roles, as does Meryl Streep as the formidable editor in chief of Runway Magazine, Miranda Priestly.
On the promotional posters of the iconic fashion franchise, are a pair of gloves, designed by Ireland's Ms Rowan.
Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, she said the request to be involved with the movie came in about a year ago.
She said getting the call for the "iconic film" was a "real pinch me moment".
"It was probably the most successful film which was made about fashion. I think it really aligns my gloves with these huge international luxury brands, when you think of Chanel, Gucci, Prada.
"I saw the promotional images coming out in the last two weeks and then I got confirmation earlier this week.
"On Wednesday I found out that Lady Gaga was also wearing my gloves in the main track to the soundtrack. Again, that was super super exciting," she said.
Ms Rowan said celebrities are wearing her gloves, which have been photographed in Vogue magazine and Vanity Fair as well as in a lot of other luxury magazines.
"This has really positioned my brand globally as well," she said.
She said her glove is called the Montseratt, which is a 16bt glove, meaning 16 inches from the wrist of the arm.
The gloves come in a variety of different lengths, with Emily Blunt wearing a 12 inch one in the movie.
Ms Rowan said it also really affirms where she stands internationally.
"It says that my gloves aren’t just about keeping you warm but that they are a fashion statement, luxury statement," she said.
She pinned her success down to the extent of her range of gloves.
Ms Rowan said she has 250 designs in 50 different colours and has gloves for both men and women.
"I have a huge selection, I have the finest leathers, which are tanned and died naturally, they feel like second skins," she said.
She said she benefitted from working on the House of Gucci film before.
On what is next for the Dublin-based designer, Ms Rowan said she is working on another TV series.
