Irish woman's gosling photo shortlisted for comedy award

An amateur nature photographer's picture of a brood of sleepy goslings at Finnamore Lakes in Co Offaly has been shortlisted for the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards 2026.

Celine Nic Oireachtaigh said she captured the image as the goslings "snuggled down together in a fuzzy puddle" after a swim in the lake.

Ms Nic Oireachtaigh has a particular interest in snapping flora and fauna in wetlands and boglands.

"There were over 10,000 entries for the competition from 112 countries this year, so I am delighted to be shortlisted amongst the final 43," she said.

The Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards has become a fixture on the photography competition calendar.

A caiman wearing a wig, two brown bears laughing and a leopard doing a handstand are among the images competing with Ms Nic Oireachtaigh's goslings.

Winners will be announced on 8 December.
