After much speculation, Lewis Capaldi has been added to the bill of this year's Electric Picinic in Co Laois.

The Scottish singer, who played Dublin’s Marlay Park on Tuesday and Wednesday, will headline the opening night of the weekend on Friday, 28 August in Stradbally.

Speculation about his appearance at the festival began after his upcoming gig at Electric Picnic appeared on merchandise and t-shirts on sale at Marlay Park.

He joins the already announced line-up of Gorillaz, Fontaines D.C., CMAT, Sombr, and Zara Larsson..

This year’s Electric Picnic returns to Co. Laois and will take place from 28th to 30th August with up to 80,000 music fans flocking to the 600-acre Stradbally Estate.

Capaldi opened his crowd-pleasing Marlay Park show on Tuesday, where he was supported by Irish singer CMAT, with relatively new song Hollywood, followed by Grace, Bruises, Wish You the Best, Pointless, Before You Go, and The Day That I Die.

Tuesday night's show also saw one fan in the audience make a marriage proposal to which Capaldi joked, "Don’t ever steal my spotlight again."

He also dismissed rumours that Niall Horan was to make a surprise appearance, saying. "Niall’s not f***ing here."

Capaldi pays Thomond Park, Limerick this Friday night.
