President meets climate activist Greta Thunberg at Áras

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has visited Áras an Uachtaráin for a courtesy meeting with President Catherine Connolly.

The visit, which took place around 3pm, was facilitated by Bohemian Football Club and takes place in advance of a major public solidarity event hosted by the club in Dublin tomorrow.

Ms Thunberg's visit coincides with her participation in An Evening of Words and Songs for Gaza, to be held tomorrow at Dalymount Park.

The event will raise funds for grassroots winter aid for families in Gaza and brings together voices from across activism, medicine, culture and music.

The evening will feature Ms Thunberg and Dr Mohammed Abu Mughaisib, in conversation with Caoimhe Butterly, reflecting on the experience of the recent flotillas to Gaza, and what comes next for those standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

All proceeds from the event will go directly towards community-led winter aid efforts for families in Gaza.
