People arrived in their thousands to Abergavenny on Saturday, September 21, for the first day of the Monmouthshire town's annual food festival. The event showcases food from all over Wales and beyond, with stallholders including Alex Gooch and La Grande Bouffe.

Held in the shadows of Abergavenny Castle, the festival provides access to six venues in the centre of town with 190 exhibitors and caterers, plus guest chef demonstrations in the Market Hall, cooking-over-fire sessions, talks, debates and children's activities in the castle grounds.

Now in its 26th year, the event is run on a not-for-profit basis and is back for September 21 and 22. On Saturday, chef Dina Macki showcased her new recipe book Bahari, which celebrates her British-Omani-Zanzibari heritage with fresh recipes and nuanced essays.

The event on Saturday also saw fire-cook specialists, Sam Evans and Shauna Guinn of Hangfire BBQ, showcasing their inimitable mix of tasty food, hot tips and tricks of the trade, as well as a chef demonstration by Chris Harrod of the award-winning restaurant, The Whitebrook in nearby Monmouth.
