BBC Death In Paradise fans spot problem everyone missed with police station

by · Wales Online

Death In Paradise fans have spotted a longstanding problem with Saint Marie's infamous police station.

The hub of all the action on the BBC detective drama takes place at the police station but fans have been left puzzled by one thing that happens in each episode of the show. It is a 'problem' that has faced each detective; firstly DI Richard Poole (Ben Miller), and then his subsequent replacements including DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall), DI Jack Mooney (Ardal O'Hanlon), DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little) and Don Gilet set to take on the role of DI Mervin Wilson in the New Year.

Taking to social media, fans were left puzzled by what happened every night when the police station was closed and the detectives headed out to drinks or dinner at Catherine's bar or back to their homes for a well-deserved rest.

One fan of the show noted on social media that every night the police station is locked up and the detectives don't return there until the early morning. They questioned: "What about any prisoners who are in the cells? They seem to be left there in the dark with no access to food or drink or the bathroom facilities and unable to contact anyone if there was a kind of emergency."

Other viewers' minds were blown by the comment, with many noting that they hadn't even considered that before now but quipped that the show had been "ruined" for them by the revelation.

Death In Paradise is actually filmed in Guadeloupe, as the fictional Saint Marie doesn't exist. The police station is actually the Presbytery, which is attached to the church of St Peter and St Paul in Deshaies.

Deshaies also features as the town of Honore. The fishing village on Basse-Terre island actually runs on location tours for fans who have travelled there to get their own slice of paradise.

However, fans will be devastated to know that the detective's famous beach shack, where they live with lizard Harry, is actually not a permanent structure. The shack is built ready for each season on Anse de la Perle Beach.

For those in the UK, a trip to Beyond Paradise's Shipton Abbott might be a bit easier. The town of Looe, Cornwall is actually the real life home to Shipton Abbott, which is meant to be based in Devon.

*A new series of Death In Paradise and Beyond Paradise are expected soon, with the previous series available on BBC iPlayer.
