by · Wales Online

Neil Jones appeared on BBC Morning Live when he issued an update on his co-star Amy Dowden, who collapsed backstage before the Strictly Come Dancing results show was recorded on Saturday night.

On Monday's episode (28 October) everyone was hopeful that Amy would make a full recovery and professional dancer Neil was convinced his friend would be back on her feet in no time.

Speaking to hosts Gethin Jones and Michelle Ackerley he declared: "She's such a trooper, she's so strong." Amy was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer last year but was given the all clear from doctors before she was announced in the 2024 Strictly line-up.

According to reports, an ambulance was called to the BBC studios on Saturday evening "as precaution" and Amy is now feeling "much better".

Reports have since confirmed that Amy has been temporarily replaced by BBC bosses after suffering a "medical emergency" backstage during the live Halloween special.

The Welsh dancer, who is currently in remission from breast cancer, was taken to hospital after she'd performed the Foxtrot to Toploader hit Dancing In The Moonlight with JLS star partner JB Gill.

It's understood that professional dancer Lauren Oakley, will step in temporarily to take over Amy's role on the glitzy show.

In a conversation with The Sun, a source said: "Lauren will be stepping in today to train with JB. It's unclear when Amy will be back but everyone just wants her to rest and get better."

It was feared that Amy, who also suffers from Crohn's disease, could quit the show after she became ill on Saturday's show.

Amy's absence meant she was unable to join JB Gill for the results show at the weekend, which is pre-recorded on Saturday after the live performance and broadcast on a Sunday.

But Amy and JB, who had scored 32 points from the judges, were saved from the dance off thanks to the public vote and JB is now through to next week's competition.

BBC's Morning live airs weekdays on BBC One from 09:30am.
