Saturday night's Strictly Come Dancing saw a tense moment as Shirley Ballas cut across Craig Revel Horwood during the live broadcast.

The moment came after Welshman Wynne Evans and his dance partner Katya Jones performed the cha cha to Papa's Got A Brand New Bag from Mrs Doubtfire, with 52-year-old Wynne channelling the beloved Robin Williams character.

Craig was unimpressed with the performance, commenting: "I have to say the hip action really let this whole number down, it was really wooden and stiff!" Only for Shirley to interject, saying: "No, not at all, not at all!"

Craig stood by his critique, repeating, "It was wooden and stiff!" while Shirley again disagreed, stating: "I didn't think it was wooden" prompting Craig to assert firmly: "Well, it was..."

Despite the disagreement, Craig scored Wynne and Katya a respectable seven out of 10, with Shirley giving an eight, leading to a total score of 30 for the pair, reports the Mirror.

The show had earlier kicked off with the professional dancers entertaining the audience dressed as Minions from Despicable Me, complete with Kai Widdrington portraying Gru, and the others in yellow bodysuits resembling the animated sidekicks.

Viewers were left scratching their heads over the opening dance on Strictly Come Dancing, with many airing their views on Twitter. One viewer commented: "Not at all keen on the minions opening number. There didn't seem to be much actual dancing going on #Strictly", while another tweeted: "What a bonkers opening number! #Strictly".

A third shared: "It's movie week on #Strictly and that pro number to Minions was not the one" and yet another added: "That opening routine was.... #Strictly."

However, the performance had its fans, as one person enthused: "Loved the opening dance tonight #Strictly #scd", and another expressed: "Loved that opening dance #Strictly". Further praise came from someone who declared: "Best. Opening dance. Everrrrr! #Strictly" and another who exclaimed: "OMG THIS DESPICABLE ME OPENING PERFORMANCE YASSSS #strictly."

The episode featured the professional dancers and their celebrity partners delivering movie-themed performances in full costume.

Unfortunately, DIY SOS presenter Nick Knowles and his partner Luba Mushtuk were unable to perform their Charleston to 'Rain On The Roof' from Paddington 2 due to Nick's injury, which occurred on Friday. Following Strictly's regulations, the duo will automatically progress to next week's show, hoping for Nick's swift recovery.

This news follows the departure of Olympian Tom Dean and his partner Nadiya Bychkova, who were the first couple to be voted off the show last weekend.

Strictly Come dancing is on BBC One Saturday and Sunday and on BBC iPlayer
