Call the Midwife legend unrecognisable in racy Disney+ series Rivals

Call the Midwife fans have been left stunned after spotting a legendary star on a new Disney+ series.

Since BBC period drama Call the Midwife launched in 2012, many of the original cast members have landed roles in other popular TV shows and films, one of them being actress Bryony Hannah. ,Bryony, 40, played the role of Nurse Cynthia Miller, a kind-hearted and smart midwife who became a close friend and confidant to Jessica Raine's character, Nurse Jenny Lee.

But she suffered many trials and tribulations including abuse and being wrongfully incarcerated at a psychiatric institute. Bryony was part of the show for its first six series, before sadly leaving Poplar in 2017 and is yet to return as the show moves into its 14th series.

Bryony reportedly left the much-loved series to concentrate on other work and went on to focus on her theatre career. The star was even nominated for the prestigious Olivier Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role for the play The Children's Hour.

But the actress has delighted Call the Midwife fans after landing a part in Rivals which has proved to be a hit with Disney+ viewers.

Headlined by David Tennant and Alex Hassell, Rivals promises a whirlwind of high-flying shenanigans and sizzling storylines, right from the opening gambit of an ex-Olympian MP's high-altitude antics.

The story comes from author Jilly Cooper's 1980s hit book of the same name, the second in her Rutshire Chronicles series. Bryony portrays the role of Deirdre Kilpatrick a researcher at Corinium TV and human Eeyore.

Taking to Facebook, one shocked Call the Midwife fan shared a photo of Bryony in her Rivals role and commented: "Spotted in Disney's Rivals, far cry from the nuns!".

A second exclaimed: "She looks so different. had to Google who it was", while another stated: "Wow, she looks totally different."

"Took me a good minute to work out who it was", confessed one fan as another added: "Didn't recognise her at all."

Bryony has also appeared on BBC One drama Death in Paradise, The Chelsea Detective, Porters, and the ITV crime drama Unforgotten, starring Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar.

Call the Midwife returns to BBC One on Christmas Day.
