BBC Strictly Come Dancing devotees have predicted that Toyah Wilcox might face elimination after detecting "tension" between her and dance partner Neil Jones.

Although she was pegged by bookmakers as the contestant most likely to be sent packing, Toyah received considerable praise from the judges for showing marked improvement this week. Anton du Beke initiated the compliments, expressing: "That move at the beginning reminded me of Blackpool last year when Craig was crawling across a bar. This was a thousand times better than last week. More of that please."

Craig Revel Horwood, on the other hand, wasn't as enthusiastic, declaring: "Well it wasn't a thousand times, that's a slight exaggeration." He did acknowledge: "It was flat-footed," but also remarked: "I loved your energy."

Shirley Ballas showed warmth towards Toyah's performance, requesting: "Give her a little cuddle from me because that was much better than last week. Last week to this week, definitely better marks," reports the Mirror.

Emotionally, she added: "I'm going to call you my rock chick because I lived in Texas for five years, and when I hear that music, I just go back there, I can see all those people doing the line dances and doing the different types of Jives. You had windmills in there, a windmill. I don't think I've ever seen a windmill on Strictly."

Despite these comments, many viewers are convinced that there's a disconnect between Toyah and Neil which puts them in jeopardy. A concerned fan stated: "I'm sensing tension with Toyah and Neil. #Strictly."

Another concurred, adding: "Me too! At the beginning, on the stairs, he was proper looking at her and she totally blanked him." (sic).

A third viewer expressed discontent, saying: "There's something about Toyah and Neil together which just doesn't work. Shame. I like her but she's not coming across that great. #Strictly."

Another fan criticised: "It's all about Neil in the partnership with Toyah I'm so annoyed. Others play to their partners' strengths #Strictly."

Anticipating an exit, someone else commented: "Might as well say goodbye to Toyah tonight, there's no way she's not going tomorrow #Strictly."

Yet, not all opinions were negative as a supporter shared: "Don't understand people's hate for Toyah and Neil. Love them. Toyah has greatly improved this week."

"Toyah and Neil's Jive was just a bundle of fun tonight. Who could not enjoy the Tina Turner classic music too. Toyah is looking good and full of energy. Fingers crossed for tonight," another voiced their support. (sic)

Come Sunday night, one couple will face elimination in the season's first cut-off.

The two lowest-scoring celebrities after votes are tallied must perform once more in the dance-off - with bookmakers suggesting Toyah might be on her way out.

According to Betway spokesperson Chad Yeomans, who spoke with Express.co.uk: "After Toyah Wilcox scored just 12 points on Strictly's opening night, she's now the 7/4 favourite to leave the competition first."

Hot on her heels in the race nobody wants to lead, former football star Paul Merson sits at 3/1 odds and TV host Nick Knowles at 5/1 both potentially facing the end of their dance floor journey this weekend.

He went on to say: "Meanwhile, comedian Chris McCausland is stealing the spotlight, with his odds to win the show slashed from 10/1 to 7/2, making him the joint-favourite alongside Tasha Ghouri.

"Chris dazzled the audience with his first performance, and his natural charm and wit have vaulted him into serious contention for the Glitterball trophy."
