The One Show’s Alex Jones found herself in hot water as a guest claimed the host was "not nice" after she shared a brutal comment.

During Friday’s episode of the BBC hit chat show, Alex and co-star Roman Kemp were joined by actor and writer Rupert Everett, who spoke about his new book of short stories inspired by his successful career in film.

However things took an awkward turn when Rupert reflected on one of his TV projects, The Next Best Thing, a film he starred in alongside Madonna. The actor admitted that the movie wasn’t his best work as he said that it ‘completely tanked’

Alex Jones made a cheeky dig at Hollywood star Rupert Everett

In a candid moment he started off by saying: “In our careers can be like a game of snakes and ladders because you can go right up to the top but then you can quite easily go back down to the bottom.”

He continued: “That movie for me really was a zenith moment. It was a big studio picture and I was the actor who green lit it to happen and I was then employed as the writer to re-write the script and I chose all the actors but little by little I blew everything - in terms of making the movie.”

The star revealed: “I was fired from being the producer and at one point the producer said ‘do you want to be in the film or now’ and I said ‘yes’. so it was a weird story and then the film completely tanked when it came out and so..”

As he attempted to finish his sentence, Alex jumped in and made a cheeky dig as she said: “I didn’t think it was too bad.” Rupert joked: “Attitude darling, that is not very nice.”

Everyone burst out laughing as Roman stepped in: “We need to work on that. We will work on that. Rupert, I apologise.” Alex turned to the actor and said: “I’m sorry. You looked so disheartened by it but I thought it was fine.”

She added: “I’m digging.” Roman swiftly changed the subject as he said: “Right lets just move on. What I love about it is that all these stories have been put in your book, the American note, and the reviews have been incredible.”

The One Show airs weekdays from 7pm on BBC One and iPlayer
