Filming for the new Beatles biopic took place at Liverpool Town Hall today

Liverpool city centre was taken back in time today as film crews recreated the iconic moment when The Beatles returned to their home city in 1964. The filming, for Sam Mendes' upcoming biopics, took place at Liverpool Town Hall on Dale Street and on Castle Street.

Following their conquering of the US, on July 10, 1964, the Fab Four saw a triumphant homecoming to Liverpool, where they were greeted by thousands of fans.

The stars of the film are Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. The four actor appeared on the balcony of the town hall today, all wearing the famous Beatles suits as they recreated the legendary moment.

Vintage cars, police costumes and clothing could also be seen as producers took the city centre back to the sixties.

The series of four films will tell the story of the band from each of its members' perspectives. They are set to be released in April 2028.
