The Book Of Mormon returns to Liverpool in September 2025 as part of the Empire Theatre's centenary year. Theatre fans will once again be able to watch the Broadway smash hit, which is written by Trey Parker, Matt Stone and Robert Lopez, when it comes to the city next year.
A production of the show last visited Liverpool back in 2022, when it was met with rave reviews. The show's story follows a pair of Mormon boys sent on a mission to a place that’s a long way from their home in Salt Lake City.
Since making its world premiere in March 2011 at New York’s Eugene O’Neill Theatre, where it won nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, The Book of Mormon has been performed on three continents and won over thirty international awards. The musical has smashed long-standing box office records in New York, London, Melbourne, Sydney and cities across the US.
Written by the creators of South Park (Trey Parker and Matt Stone, alongside Bobby Lopez, co-writer of Avenue Q and Frozen), the show was described as 'the best musical of this century' by The New York Times.
The show follows the journey of two missionaries who dream of serving in Orlando, Florida, only to be told they must serve in Uganda. While in Africa, they share their scriptures with the local community. The locals don’t care about what they have to say, as they are faced with more significant threats.
The Book of Mormon returns to the Empire Theatre on Tuesday, September 30 and will run until Saturday, October 18. Tickets are available online.
