Hundreds of people gathered in Liverpool this weekend to celebrate Vesak, one of the most important dates in the calendar for the Sri Lankan community. Devotees from all over the country met for three days at the Sri Sambuddha Viharaya temple in Croxteth to mark the birth, enlightenment and passing of the Buddha.
Colourful lanterns and traditional decorations decked out the temple while hundreds of people gathered to watch a huge Buddha be lit up with 40,000 bulbs. People were dressed in traditional white and began each day with prayers. A choir sang to the crowds and people ate delicious food as part of the huge celebrations.
These fab pictures below taken by our ECHO photographer Iain Watts show the incredible celebrations which took place.
