This news anchor left CBS47 for another Fresno station. Where to see her now.

KMPH welcomed a new co-anchor to its 10 p.m. evening newscast this week.

It’s another switch-around in a TV news landscape that has seen a lot of that recently.

Vanessa Villafuerte joined the Fox affiliate as a reporter and co-anchor, after more than a year-and-half of anchoring CBS47’s afternoon broadcast. “We kind of kept it a little bit of a secret for a while,” Villafuerte said during a segment announcing the hire on Monday. “I’m so excited to be a part of the team.”

The move answers a question viewers had been asking for the past few months.

Who would replace Monte Torres, following news anchor’s medical leave and eventual retirement in June?

Kim Stephens moved from her spot on Great Day to cover for Torres early on in his medical leave. But she has since returned to the morning show (and announced her own retirement).

This left Madison Macay without an official partner at the 10 p.m. news desk. Until now.

Villafuerte is a Los Angeles native and Pepperdine graduate who came to Fresno after gigs in Yuma, Ariz, Omaha Neb., and Bakersfield. In between TV news gigs, she spent some time doing communications work at UCLA Health.

Major changes in TV news this summer

It’s been a hectic summer for Fresno’s TV news stations.

At least a dozen on-air personalities from across all four network affiliates (ABC30, the KSEE24 and CBS47 duopoly and KMPH Fox 26) have announced departures or new assignments since June.

Some are leaving to other markets or taking gigs in related industries.

That includes former CBS47 anchor Brian Dorman, who announced this week he’s joining the nonprofit Finding Kids as its first Chief Communications Officer. He became familiar with the organization while reporting on a series stories on human trafficking and missing children, Dorman said in announcing the job on social media.

“I’ve spent 21 years sharing stories with you, and now I get to focus on one story, one mission: getting results that help find and literally save children.”
