Below Deck's Captain Sandy Gives Update on Nathan Gallagher After DV Arrest
· The Fresno BeeCaptain Sandy Yawn is offering an update on where she stands with Below Deck Mediterranean costar Nathan Gallagher following his domestic violence arrest in Australia.
"Nathan struggles," Captain Sandy, 61, claimed in a Tuesday, October 14, interview with Page Six‘s "Virtual Reali-Tea". "We talk and I encourage him to stop drinking and get help."
Nathan, 30, was arrested in December near Sydney on domestic violence charges due to an alleged incident involving an unidentified 29-year-old woman, shortly after he completed filming Below Deck Mediterranean season 11. (Nathan shares 2-year-old daughter Kayden with Below Deck Med costar Gael Cameron, whom he met while shooting the Bravo show in 2024.)
A police report obtained by Us revealed that Nathan was cited for "assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentionally chok[ing] a person without consent and common assault." Nathan was granted conditional bail and was ultimately convicted of three counts of domestic violence after failing to appear in court.
Us also learned that an Apprehended Violence Application (AVO) was filed on Gael's behalf against Nathan in New South Wales. (The government of New South Wales defines an AVO as a "court order that aims to protect [victims] from someone [they] fear may cause [them] harm.")
Nathan was fired by Bravo following his arrest in Australia.
In light of Nathan's arrest, Captain Sandy told "Virtual Reali-Tea" that her former bosun has taken her advice to "stop drinking."
"He's going to meetings and he's trying to change his life," she added. "The next part of his life, hopefully, will be to face everything that he's done."
Nathan spoke out in August, stressing to Rolling Stone that he was "not claiming I was perfect" and acknowledging that he'd "made mistakes."
"I will take responsibility for my own actions," Nathan said at the time. "I will not accept being portrayed solely through one account of a relationship when there is another side and evidence relating to it. I have contemporaneous video footage from the night in question, as well as messages and other records, which I believe provide important context."
The former Below Deck Med star also confirmed he'd ended his romantic relationship with Gael, 30, though he hoped to forge a "peaceful" coparenting plan with her.
"There are also other matters surrounding the relationship that I have never discussed publicly," he claimed. "My priority is being recognized as his father, establishing a relationship with him and ultimately finding a way for both of us to move forward and coparent peacefully."
For her part, Gael reached out to her Instagram followers in September to express her gratitude for the "support you've shown for Kayden and I."
"It's been a tough season, but I have been using the past few months to quietly heal and rebuild for little man and myself," she wrote. "I really appreciate the love you have sent our way, especially while everything that's come to light, and I'm really working on finding myself again and moving forward."
