Riverbank announces exciting new cinema lineup with special Kildare film screening

The season kicks off with an Oscar-winning performance by Jessie Buckley in Hamnet on April 20 followed by Irish film Spilt Milk which stars Newbridge actor Cillian Sullivan

Kildare's Riverbank Arts Centre is delighted to announce a new season of cinema for April to June. The Monday night season kicks off with an Oscar-winning performance by Jessie Buckley in Hamnet (April 20).

Irish Film Institute presents a free screening on Thursday, May 14 at 7pm - Local Films for Local People - A Kildare Kaleidoscope brings rarely-seen archival films out of the vaults and back to Kildare. This is a delightfully varied programme of short films made in and about Kildare from the 1900s to the 1970s. The evening will include an introduction from IFI’s Sunniva O’Flynn who will welcome feedback from local viewers who may recognise previously unidentified people and places on this journey through Kildare’s historic past.

Newbridge actor, Cillian Sullivan, who stars in the Irish film Spilt Milk (May 18), will introduce the film on the night.

Riverbank’s Pride screening this year is The History of Sound (June 22) starring Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor. Other Monday night titles include German film Sound of Falling (April 27); Nigerian director Akinola Davies Juniors’ My Father’s Shadow (May 25); historical musical drama The Testament of Ann Lee (June 8); comedy-drama The Love That Remains (June 15) and Chinese Sci-Fi title Resurrection (June 29).

David Bowie fans are in for a treat as Labyrinth returns to the big screen for a 40th anniversary showing on Saturday 25 April at 4pm.

A special screening of In Time – Dónal Lunny will take place on Thursday 23 April at 8pm. In this film, music fuses with the personal arc of Dónal Lunny’s biographical journey, bringing the artist into being on screen. The film also includes rare and powerful performances along with a reunion with Christy Moore.

Riverbank’s Monday night cinema programme and special screenings are presented in association with Access Cinema and Europa Cinemas.
