Paramount to bring 'Harry Potter' movies to MTV, Nickelodeon and more
by Annie Martin · UPIJune 25 (UPI) -- Paramount has signed a multi-year deal with Warner Bros. Discovery to broadcast the Harry Potter movies.
The network announced in a press release Thursday that it is bringing all 11 of the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films to MTV, Nickelodeon/Nick at Nite and Paramount Network for the first time.
Based on the J.K. Rowling book series, the eight Harry Potter movies were released between 2001 and 2011 and star Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. The three Fantastic Beasts films are also based on Rowling's works and debuted between 2016 to 2022. Those movies star Eddie Redmayne and Katherine Waterston.
"Expanding Paramount's portfolio with the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films underscores our commitment to delivering world-class franchises to the wide range of audiences our brands serve," Paramount Media Networks head of programming and acquisitions Laurel Weir said.
"As one of the most beloved and enduring franchises in entertainment, Harry Potter continues to captivate audiences across generations, and this addition enables to deliver the magic and adventure of these timeless stories to fans of all ages."
The new deal will make Paramount brands the exclusive linear home of the Harry Potter films, which begin airing July 3.
Here's a broadcast schedule:
MTV will air a marathon of the eight Harry Potter films beginning July 3 at 12 p.m. ET and running through July 5.
Paramount Network will broadcast one featured title from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts series beginning weeknights July 13 at 6 p.m. ET and ending July 19. Weekend screenings air at 12 p.m. ET.
Nick at Nite will air each Harry Potter movie beginning Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. ET, with encores appearing the next day on Nickelodeon. Nickelodeon will then air a marathon beginning Sept. 3 over Labor Day weekend.
HBO and Warner Bros. are developing a series adaptation of the Harry Potter books that was renewed for Season 2 in May ahead of its initial premiere.
