'Resident Evil' teaser: Zach Cregger reimagines horror franchise
by Annie Martin · UPIApril 30 (UPI) -- Sony Pictures is giving a glimpse of the new Resident Evil.
The studio shared a teaser trailer for the movie Thursday featuring Austin Abrams, an actor known for The Walking Dead, Euphoria, This is Us and Dash & Lily.
Resident Evil is directed by Zach Cregger (Barbarian) and serves as a reboot of the film series based on the Capcom horror video game franchise. Cregger and Abrams previously collaborated on the 2025 movie Weapons.
The teaser shows Abrams' character leave a voicemail for his girlfriend as terrifying scenes from his night play out.
"In an all-new story, Resident Evil follows Bryan, a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos," an official description reads.
Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Paul Walter Hauser also star.
Resident Evil opens in theaters Sept. 18.
The franchise was previously adapted as a series of films starring Milla Jovovich and a 2021 movie, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, starring Kaya Scodelario.
