BBC Strictly fans praise Dianne Buswell after Chris McCausland's joke falls flat

by · Birmingham Live

Fans of Strictly Come Dancing have praised Dianne Buswell following her latest performance with celebrity partner Chris McCausland. It comes after the comedian's joke fell flat during Saturday's performance on the BBC show.

The pair performed a Tango to rock band KISS' hit Rock and Roll All Nite during the first ever 'icon's week'. After their performance, presenter Tess Daly said: "Listen to that applause Chris, I think Dave Arch enjoyed playing that as much as you enjoyed dancing it!"

Chris joked in response: "Well you know, dancing a Tango on BBC, I can only imagine someone's got to dance a Fanta now just to balance it out! " However, his joke landed flat with no response from the live studio audience, The MEN reports.

He then said: "Yeah, that was funnier in my head, shame this isn't pre-recorded innit?" Chris and Dianne ended up scoring 29 points out of a possible 40.

And speaking to Claudia Winkleman, Dianne said: "The thing with Chris is, every week he comes here and I say, 'They're doing a Tango' and he says, 'Oh, that's great!' and then when it comes to it, he goes, 'What is the Tango then?' Every week is a new learning curve. He hasn't got any reference to look at any dance, ever!"

Turning to Chris, who is blind, she added: "Honestly, I take my hat off to you! You're so incredible," before her celebrity partner replied: "I take my hat off to you!"

Fans have since praised Dianne's comments on social media after they were left fearing for the dancer last week when she looked 'sad' after their performance.

@StacyOnWheels wrote: "Well said Dianne, he has no frame of reference for any of the amazing dances he’s doing!! And he’s doing amazing, and Dianne is a bloody good teacher!! #strictly #StrictlyComeDancing."

@see75 said: "Dianne is SO right. Chris has got absolutely no reference to any dance whatsoever. He is pretty incredible. Loved that tango! #strictly #StrictlyComeDancing."
