ITV The Masked Singer's Joel Dommett breaks silence on Macy Gray drama and says 'can't be vexed'

by · Birmingham Live

The Masked Singer host Joel Dommett has addressed the dramatic exit of Macy Gray on the latest show. The TV presenter, 39, and celebrity panel were stunned when the American singer stormed off the stage after it was revealed her character - Toad in the Hole - was being eliminated from the ITV show.

After returning to the stage, fans branded her exit interview with Joel 'painful' and 'awakward' after she barely said a word. A source later claimed Macy had been 'blindsided' by the early exit following her success on the American version of the show.

They said she had had a 'normal human reaction' to the situation. Addressing the exit, Joel said it was "the funniest thing I've ever seen in my life."

Speaking on BBC Radio 2 with Paddy McGuinness, Joel said: "This is why The Masked Singer is so good, it doesn’t matter if you’re a good singer or not. The case with Macy is she’s a legend with a recognisable voice, and we all knew it was her.

"The other contestants are kept in because we don’t know who they are yet." He continued: "If you go home early, it’s a win-win. You get the same money, and you don’t have to do anything else. You can’t be vexed when you’re dressed as a toad.

Joel added: "In my career, I’ve never seen anything funnier than a 6ft toad storming off stage. I love Macy, her voice is incredible, but that moment was pure comedy gold."

Viewers took to X to comment on the dramatic moment, with one writing: "Wow, Macy Gray doing herself no favours at all." A second commented: "she is NOT happy," adding crying emoticons.

"Macy Gray got the right hump," a third fan said. A fourth echoed "Macy Gray - weird," while a fifth said: "This interview is painful." "Why does Macy Gray look and sound genuinely p***** off," another fan asked.

Another said: "Well that was the most awkward reveal ever on the show, Macy was maaad," and another added: "Well that was a bit awkward wasn’t it."

The Masked Singer returns to ITV1 next Saturday night.
