Cult PS3 Classic El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron Will Make a Pilgrimage to PS5

Announced at Tokyo Game Show

by · Push Square

When it first released on the PS3 in 2011, El Shaddai: Ascension Of The Metatron attracted a lot of attention due to its striking art style and strong narrative. In the years since, the release has established cult status, and has been ported to various other systems – including the Nintendo Switch. And now, it’ll be remastered for PS5, according to an announcement made at the Tokyo Game Show.

Gematsu reports that game director Sawaki Takeyasu owns the rights to the release, and decided to make the announcement suddenly during a livestream. “I can say whatever I want,” he revealed. “For example, I’m saying this for the first time, but it’s completely fine for me to say right now that we’re making a PS5 version of El Shaddai.”

God complex

Asked if he was really allowed to reveal such a detail, he explained: “I just thought of it, and now I can say it. That’s the benefit of holding the rights.”

Given the nature of the announcement, there’s no word on a release window or supporting assets. But El Shaddai is definitely in-development for the PS5, so that’s something to look forward to.

Thank God. (Literally)
This is one of my favorite games, and I bet it's going to look immaculate on PS5.

I forgot this game existed, and I owned it for a while. So that's the impact it had on me. Always pleased to see games stuck on PS3 generation get ported over though.

Never in a million years would I thought I’d see the day, and couldn’t be any happier about it. To me, this game is a masterpiece.

Always wanted to play this back on PS3 and never did. Will be eager to check it out on PS5.

Great news as its very good and not enough played it originally.

Nice. Never got it for PS3, so this is welcome.
