Resident Evil Film Producer Turns to New Silent Hill Movie, Report Claims

Roy Lee, the producer of Weapons and the latest Resident Evil film from Zack Cregger, might have lined up a new Silent Hill movie as one of his next projects.

As part of a new Wall Street Journal article — which documents Lee's career — the Silent Hill franchise is listed as one of the IPs he's currently working on, alongside God of War and Battlefield. Since the awful Return to Silent Hill flick came out at the start of this year (which Lee wasn't involved in), there hasn't been any official mention of another movie in the series.

There's no mention of Cregger being involved, but to have such a successful movie producer on a Silent Hill film could result in a change in fortune for Konami's adaptations. The very first one, released back in 2006, isn't too bad, but they have been terrible since then.

Lee has helped the new Resident Evil film become the top movie at the USA box office at the time of writing, and it's on course to be the highest-grossing Resident Evil flick in the country. It's been well received by critics and audiences, with our own review saying:

"It doesn't need a licker. It doesn't need a Nemesis. It doesn't need a cameo from Leon, Claire, or Jill. All Resident Evil wants to be is a great film, and that's exactly what it is."

To date, the Metacritic scores of Silent Hill movies are as follows:

  • Silent Hill (2006) — 31
  • Silent Hill: Revelation 3D — 16
  • Return to Silent Hill — 34

To see Silent Hill receive similar treatment as Resident Evil would be a pleasure after that kind of streak.

So what you want about the Resident evil movies but man the last two SIlent hill movies were god awful, how has return got a 34?!?

Sounds promising. I look forward to seeing the new Resident Evil film, but my mate tells me that Gregger is not interested in making a sequel due to the 'hardcore' Resident Evil fans disliking the fact that it does not follow the games, which if true is majorly disappointing...
