458 booked for drunk driving in Hyderabad over the weekend
The Malkajgiri Police arrested 124 people for drunk driving.
by News Desk · The Siasat DailyHyderabad: As many as 458 people were booked for drunk driving in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri commissionerates during a special drive conducted on Friday and Saturday, June 12 and 13.
Hyderabad
Hyderabad Police Commissionerate topped the list with 281 drunk driving cases being recorded. Out of this, 219 were two-wheeler riders, 30 were three-wheeler drivers, and 32 were four-wheeler or other vehicle drivers.
Most of the offenders had blood alcohol levels between 51 and 100, with 128 cases being recorded.
Malkajgiri
On the other hand, the Malkajgiri Police booked 124 people, including 112 two-wheeler riders, seven three-wheeler drivers and five four-wheeler drivers.
At least three recorded a BAC of over 300.
Cyberabad
Cyberabad recorded the least cases with only 53 offenders. Two-wheeler riders accounted for 48 cases, while three cases were booked against three-wheeler riders. Two of the offenders were four-wheeler drivers.
As many as 38 people recorded a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) ranging from 100-200, seven recorded a BAC ranging from 201-300, and eight recorded a BAC of 301-550.
All the persons who are booked will have to appear before the court for legal proceedings, the police stated.
Officials noted that offenders involved in fatal crashes while intoxicated would be booked under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which carries a maximum punishment of up to 10 years’ imprisonment along with a fine.
